Baby Cham Competition

The 2017 Baby Cham competition is coming up soon. We have confirmed the date and venue as Sunday 12th November, at Chilton St James School, Lower Hutt. Entries are due by 11th November. Sorry about the late notice.

This competition is a great way for our under 13, under 11, and under 9 fencers to wrap up the year of fencing, and have a bit of fun with fencers from their own club and others from the region. The more people that register, the better the event will be, so make sure to get in soon!

Full details can be found here: Baby Cham Invite 2017

Saturday Fencing Cancelled

The Saturday 10-12pm session tomorrow (4th November) has been cancelled. Apologies for the late notice. This is due to the softball club requiring the venue for a tournament.

Feel free to attend another session during the week to catch up!

URGENT: New premises for Tues & Thur 7-9pm

We are pleased to announce that we have secured a bigger venue to better facilitate the over-crowded 7-9pm classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Beginning 7th November 2017 (next week), these two sessions will take place at Treadwell Street Hall, Treadwell Street, Naenae. See the map below. Please note that all other classes will still be held at Fraser Park Grandstand at normal times.

  • Tell everyone, as we do not have email addresses for all club members, and we don’t want anyone to miss this message.
  • If you haven’t already, subscribe for email updates on the right hand panel of the website. Changes and cancellations are posted on the website, and are sent straight to your inbox.
  • Take all your equipment home with you, so that you can bring it to the new premises on Tuesday next week.
  • We will make arrangements to issue loan gear where possible, but we will be asking that you pay a deposit for this. We will work towards all Tuesday and Thursday fencers being self-sufficient for equipment.
  • We need parents to collect the hall key from Naenae Pool, and supervise until Robert arrives from Fraser Park, and help to transport scoring equipment between venues. Volunteers are what makes this club a success, so please let us know if you can help.

Please send us an email at huttvalleyfencing@gmail.com so that we have a record of who has received this notice.

A big thanks to Bea for all her effort in securing this fantastic new venue for the club!

Club Gear

We are missing a large amount of club equipment from the armoury. Can everyone please check your gear bags, at home and at the clubrooms, and return any gear that belongs to the club. There is a large amount of bodywires and weapons missing, and this shortage means some people have been unable to fence, so please make sure to do this as soon as possible!

If you find any other gear that does not belong to you, return this to the clubrooms as well, so it can be reunited with its owner. A number of fencers are missing their personal equipment, which may have accidentally found it’s way into someone else’s bags. If you ensure that the gear room is kept clean and tidy, this is much less likely to be a problem.

Secondary School Novice Competition

Wellington Swords Club is hosting the 2017 Central Secondary School Novice Foil Competition on 28th October at Wellington High School.

This competition is for any current intermediate or high-school fencers, who have been fencing for less than two years. This is a fantastic opportunity to put into practice what you have been learning at the club, and gain more experience by fencing people who you may not get the opportunity to regularly fence with.

If you need to borrow equipment for this competition, make sure to arrange this one week before the competition.
