URGENT: Session cancellations due to weather

Due to Cyclone Gita, it has been decided that the 6.00pm junior session this evening is cancelled.

Robert will not be coming out to Lower Hutt, but Russell  is willing to open the clubrooms at 7.00pm. Any fencers who wish to attend the 7.00pm advanced class, please text Russell (022-638-5612) urgently to confirm your attendance tonight, so that a decision can be made regarding this session.

Eastbourne based fencers, please ensure that you have a ride home, and take into consideration possible closure of the road into Eastbourne due to high tide and swells.

We do not have up-to-date contact information for many club members, so please ensure that you fill out the 2018 registration form at  https://huttvalleyfencing.org/club-registration/ so that in future we can make sure urgent messages get to all club members. In the meantime, please pass this message onto anyone who may not have received it.

Reminder that Trefoil and FenCen AGM is this Sunday, so get entries in (these are due tomorrow), and get your gear arranged this week if you haven’t already.

2018 HVFC Registrations

Dear Hutt Valley Fencing Club members,

The HVFC Committee would like to ask all fencers who wish to attend HVFC in 2018 to please complete our new online registration form. This includes all new and existing club members.

This is to ensure that we have an accurate record of who is attending the club for planning purposes, as well as providing us with an updated list of contact details so that we can reach all club members with any important news or announcements. Finally, we require an updated list of emergency contacts for all fencers in the highly unlikely event of an incident at training.

Therefore, it is important that all fencers complete this registration form as soon as possible.

The registration form can be accessed either through the club website, or directly at https://goo.gl/forms/Ow6rcunxab3cAJhF3

Wednesday & Saturday Sessions

It is great to see so many fencers at the club two weeks back into fencing. It has been noted that the Tuesday and Thursday sessions have once again become very large classes, so we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of some other sessions that the club offers during the week:

On Wednesdays at 7.00pm to 9.00pm we are offering a new 18+ only session for the adult members of our club. This gives you the opportunity to fence in a quieter and more relaxed environment than the other classes offer, and to go at your own pace. We would like to invite parents of fencers to come along and have a go, to see what it is about fencing that makes your children so passionate about it. We have a great team of experienced fencers on hand at this session to help introduce you to fencing.

We also have a session on Saturdays at 10.00am to 12.00pm. This class is available for fencers of any age and ability, though it primarily focusses on foil. The smaller class size on Saturdays means that you have the opportunity to fit in more fencing than you can on a weekday session, and allows the three dedicated coaches to provide more attention to individual fencers.

We hope to see many of you at these sessions in the coming weeks!

Trefoil Competition and FenCen AGM

The first Wellington competition for 2018, Victoria Sword’s Trefoil, is being held on 25th February. This is an open competition, for all age groups and weapons, so head along and give it a shot.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to get back into the swing of competing, and is also a great chance for less experienced competitors to get used to how a competition works, so let’s get a massive turnout from HVFC at his event!

The Fencing Central AGM will be held at Trefoil at 12.30pm. The committee is looking for nominations for committee positions, and would like to invite everyone to attend.

Please note that the venue is at Victoria University’s Kelburn Campus, in the Recreation Centre building, rather than Karori’s Mackie Gym, where is has been held previously.

Full details are available here on the Pisting Around website.

In order to ensure that all club members receive communications in a timely and consistent manner, we will be making further use of the new mailing put in place last year. In the coming weeks, you may receive an email requesting that you confirm a subscription to the website mailing list. Please ensure that you confirm this so that you continue to receive club communications and updates.

Announcements will be available on the website home page (https://huttvalleyfencing.org), sent to your email, and on the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/huttvalleyfencing/).

We are looking forward to another successful and fun year of fencing for all!
