• Jacket: Jacket & Plastron 1150N total 
• Plastron: Jacket & Plastron 1150N total 
• Breeches: 350N 
• Masks: 350N 
• Weapons: FIE / S2000  

We have approached a couple of our fencers that this may be relevant to participate in but in case we haven’t got to you yet we have a fencing competition for our Novice High School fencers coming up next Sunday, the 8th of May.

The criteria for this fencing competition is for  any fencer who is year 7 to 13 at school with less than 24 months cumulative experience in fencing. For registration and competition details, please click here. 

Please note that months spent in lock down do not count. i.e. Those who began fencing in 2020 and 2021 before lockdowns do not need to count the months spent in isolation while being enrolled during level 4 and 3 lockdowns. 

Please note the gear requirements for this competition are:

• 350N plastrons 
• 350N jackets 
• 350N gloves 
• Chest protector
• Breeches with long socks are required for Epee and track pants will be permitted for Foil
• 350N Masks with a Foil bib for foil along with head wires and safety straps. 350N epee masks are required

We have a couple of competitions that we are hosting in the next couple of weeks. U13, U11 and U9 In House Competition

We will be hosting a small competition at St Bernards on Saturday the 9th of April at 9.30am. We would like to encourage as many of our U13, U11 and U9 fencers to attend as possible. We are looking to wrap up the competition around 12.30pm – 1.00pm.

Could you please let us know if your children would like to participate in this event? Central Secondary School Championships 2022

We are also hosting the Central Secondary School Championships this year. I have included the details below for this competition.

Date: Saturday 23rd April 2022 to Monday 25th April 2022 (ANZAC weekend)

Venue: YMCA Upper Hutt, Somme Road, Heretaunga

Entries due: Thursday 21st April. Entries received after this date will attract a $20.00 late fee.

Entry fee: $40.00 for one weapon. $50.00 for 2+ weapons.

Team event: $10.00 per person for 1+ weapons.

Unfortunately we had a member test positive for covid this morning, Sunday 20/03/22. They attended the Thursday and Saturday classes. At this stage, the person’s family members have NOT tested positive. 

We have advised St Bernard’s and are waiting for a reply from them. At this stage, CLASSES WILL CONTINUE under the guidelines set out by the government unless the school requires us to act differently.

Gita has been a member of the committee since 2018. The ideas that you have brought to the table have been much appreciated and the time that you have given to help the club even more so. Gita has helped with numerous fundraisers and weapons control over her and her son’s Advait time with the club, ending in 2020.

Both Cris and Gita will be missed and we would all like to wish you luck in your future endeavors?I would like to pass on our thank you from the Hutt Valley Fencing Club committee to Gita and Cris for all of their hard work over the years.

Cris has been our Secretary since 2017 and has helped to run our meetings over the years. Through Cris’ connections, we were able to also secure a graphic designer who aided in the rebranding of our club in late 2018 – early 2019. She has also organized a number of our end of year functions even prior to her start date on the committee.
