No Fencing Saturday and Monday

I hope you are all well. Unfortunately, due to the Waitangi Weekend competition and me still feeling under the weather, we will unfortunately need to cancel this Saturday’s session.

For the senior fencers who usually participate in the Monday class, this class will also be cancelled due to the competition running on Monday also.

Sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fencing Resumes Thursday the 3rd of January

Fortunately, the test results for out coaches COVID test came back negative so we can resume training from this Thursday onwards.
As a reminder, our Thursday class runs as per below;

  • Junior class – 7.00pm – 8.00pm
  • Senior/Adult class – 7.00pm – 9.00pm

We look forward to seeing you all this Thursday.

Fencing Postponed Monday 31st of January

Unfortunately, there was a recorded close COVID contact last Sunday at the Auckland airport. This means that unfortunately, I have had to get a test and self-isolate for the next few days before I receive my results.

This means that fencing on Monday is postponed this week. For our usual Thursday class, we will wait on the results of the test before making a call.

I am currently symptom-free which is very fortunate but I would like to encourage those of you who participated in the training camp and were flying home on the 23rd of Sunday to please get tested ASAP. More information on close contact can be found here.

Please stay safe everyone and I hope that we will be able to resume our scheduled training sessions as soon as possible.

Fencing Resumes 31st of January

I hope you all have enjoyed a long deserved break and are as excited as we are to get back into training.

We will be resuming training from Monday the 31st of January at St Bernards. Our class start times have gone unchanged and you are more than welcome to attend the sessions that you were participating in before the break. As a reminder, our schedule is:

  • Monday 7pm – 9pm – Senior and Adult fencers
  • Thursday 7pm – 8pm – Junior/beginner fencers
  • Thursday 7pm – 9pm – Senior and Adult fencers
  • Saturday 11am – 12.30pm* – Junior/beginner fencers

* Please note, at the discretion of the coaches, we have decided that it would be best if we cut the Saturday class by half an hour as we have found that 2 hours is a little too long for our younger fencers.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FILL IN OUR CLUB REGISTRATION FORM HEREWe require all of our club members over the age of 12 to have been double vaccinated and must be able to provide their vaccine passport if asked. This means that if you have not filled out our club registration form for the year, we are unfortunately unable to allow you to participate in our classes. Also, if you don’t register to the club, you may miss out on important club updates and will not be on the mailing list for 2022.

Again, we at Hutt Valley Fencing Club all look forward to seeing you next week.

Upcoming New Year of Fencing

I hope your holidays are going well thus far. I imagine a lot of people are starting back at work this week and there is only another 3 weeks give or take with the school holidays so I hope you have all made the most of it.

We are still waiting to confirm what dates we will be resuming fencing this year at St Bernards and Moera hall, but we expect that it will be either the last week of January or the first week of February at this stage. At this point in time, it looks like we have also been able to secure our normal training schedule of Monday evenings, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at St Bernards. Due to Robert being in the UK for the next while, we are unsure when we will be able to resume our Wednesday sessions in Moera.

In the meantime, there is an upcoming training camp for commonwealth championship selections that a number of our club’s fencers and fencers in the Fencing Central region are attending in Auckland. We have been very fortunate that Wellington Swords Club have offered to host a Strength and conditioning session on Tuesday and a foil training session Wednesday this week and next week. This class would be ideal for the students who would regularly attend our Monday and Wednesday classes. I have included the days and times at the bottom of this notices.

A new registration form should be available next week. Please note that on this form there is a new section in regards to the status of members’ vaccine passports. Due to the government and our venue’s host’s requirements, we require that our club members that are eligible for their vaccines need to get them or need to be in the process of getting their vaccine to attend training.

The team at Hutt Valley Fencing Club look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks time.
