Fencing Dinner Evening

It’s time for the adults to catch up so let’s have a dinner.  A dinner where there are no pistes to lay, no children to wrangle, no beeps to listen to, no having to crawl along the ground removing tape, just dinner and maybe a glass or two of the good stuff.

  • Date: 24 March
  • Time: 6.30 – 7ish
  • Venue: TBD (Somewhere in Petone?  but will depend on numbers)
  • RSVP:  Glenda by Thursday 15 March  via email glenda.flaws@xtra.co.nz

National Training Camp (Wellington)

In the lead-up to the NZ U15 and U17 champs, a three day national training camp is being held in Wellington, from 17 to 19 April at Wellington High School. This is a great opportunity to fine-tune your skills in either foil or epee, and is open to experienced fencers aged 12 and up. Spaces are limited, so enrol soon if you want to attend.

The course is run by Coach Slava and Anya Kamynina. Coach Slava is an experienced foil and epee coach, with over 30 years experience working with the Russia and Singapore national teams. Anya is a foil coach from Auckland with 20 years experience, and was a part of the Russian national team.

Important Safety Changes

At Hutt Valley Fencing Club, we strive to provide a safe environment for all club members to enjoy. As such, it has been decided to implement two new rules to ensure the safety of all club members.

Shorts will not be permitted whilst fencing in any of the three weapons. This is to prevent blades from snagging on the loose ends of shorts. Instead, we require that whilst fencing, trackpants, leggings, or breeches are worn. Shorts will still be allowed during warm-ups, fitness, and footwork, but must be changed to long pants for bladework and freeplay.

Fencers aged 15 and under may not leave the club premises until a parent or other responsible adult arrives to pick them up. We ask that parents/adults please come into the clubrooms to pick up their children wherever possible. Exceptions can be made to this rule if parents or caregivers notify coaches of alternative arrangements (eg. Public transport requirements).

We thank you for your understanding and support in making our club a safe environment for everyone.
